Larry Carter will continue in the Roush Racing stable as crew chief of Jamie McMurray’s No. 26 Crown Royal Ford Fusion for 2008.

The sophomore pairing started in ’07 at the behest of McMurray. The veteran crew chief brought a few of his own weapons as the team had a new car chief (Todd Zeigler), new engineer (Derek Stamets), new tire specialist (Billy John), new engine specialist (Justin Grebe), new mechanic (Ben Holm), and new shock specialist (Tom Hoke).

In ‘06 Carter was crew chief for former Ford driver Bill Elliott at Michael Waltrip Racing.

At Penske Racing South working with Rusty Wallace, in his last year in ’05 the two combined for a win at Martinsville. The duo entered The Chase and finished eighth.

Carter is the nephew of NASCAR team owner Travis Carter and worked with the team until ’02. The veteran of 18 years in NASCAR’s upper echelon auto racing also worked at BACE Motorsports with Tony Raines.

Carter’s youthful auto racing start came on the North Carolina dirt tracks. Though he quickly learned his way around the tracks he began his NASCAR career spotting in 1986 for Rick Mast. Carter rolled up his sleeves as a general mechanic, fabricator, tire specialist, shock specialist, data acquisition engineer and car chief along the way.
