JARRETT TOP-3 GIVES $5K TO KOMEN
7/14/2004
Dearborn, Mich. — Dale Jarrett's third-place finish in the Tropicana 400 at Chicagoland Speedway on Sunday results in another $5,000 donation from Ford Credit to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to help in its mission to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease.
"We overcame a lot today, that's the biggest thing," said Jarrett, who started 29th and almost went two laps down nearly midway through the race after experiencing a flat tire. "We had a good car all day. And whenever I got that flat tire, then we were almost two laps down there, so we had to overcome that. We got the caution, and then we stayed out and got ourselves back on the lead lap. Mike [Ford, crew chief] made a great call for two tires there at the end, and that's what really put us up front."
Ford Credit, a sponsor of the No. 88 UPS Taurus, now has donated $688,800 to the Komen Foundation based on Jarrett's on-track performance and end-of-season bonuses since 1998 - including $20,000 in 2004. Ford Credit gives the Komen Foundation $10,000 for each of Jarrett's victories, $7,500 for each second-place finish, $5,000 for each third-place finish and $5,000 for each pole position won (as fastest qualifier).
Fans are encouraged to share their thoughts or ask questions about future Race Fans for a Cure events. Fans may also make online donations via credit card.
Jarrett is in 12th place in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series points standings heading into the New England 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway on July 25.
