PIT STOP INNOVATORS CONTINUE TO IMPROVE
11/6/2004

Avondale, Ariz. — The Wood Brothers and pit stops have been synonymous for years and years. The pit crew for the present day Wood Brothers Racing No. 21 Motorcraft Taurus won the McDonald's Drive-Thru Pit Championship for its work at Atlanta Motor Speedway last weekend. Current Wood Brothers co-owner Eddie Wood says the team's pit crew has been getting better and better, and the very recent addition of Gary Smith as pit-crew coach also has helped.

EDDIE WOOD-co-owner, No. 21 Motorcraft Taurus
"Our crew had been coming together really quickly since Fatback [McSwain] got here, and last Sunday was basically proof of it. We just hired a pit-crew coach, Gary Smith, and his first day was at Atlanta. Basically, what we had has gotten better since Fatback got here."

THE WOOD BROTHERS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN SYNONYMOUS WITH PIT STOPS. DOES RECOGNITION LIKE THIS MEAN SOMETHING A LITTLE EXTRA SPECIAL FOR YOU? DO YOU TAKE PRIDE IN YOUR TEAM BEING GOOD AT THIS?
"Yeah, that's really important to me. We struggled with our pit crew the last couple of years, just simply because we moved and everything that was going on, so to win something like that is really special to us because I feel like my dad and my uncles kind of started the pit-crew thing, and hopefully with the addition of Gary we can get back to where we need to be."
