MEMPHIS SHUTS DOWN
10/30/2009
BY TEAM FORD RACING CORRESPONDENT
Talladega, Ala. — Memphis Motorsports Park has been shut down and no longer will host events promoted by the Dover Motorsports, Inc. ownership group. The ¾-mile track near Memphis was to have been sold in the off-season to Gulf Coast Entertainment, but that group wasn’t able to secure adequate funding.
Denis McGlynn, president and CEO of DMI, called it “a difficult decision, but one that ultimately was dictated by economics. For all concerned, including the Memphis community, it is truly sad to see Memphis Motorsports Park taken off the racing schedule.”
The track’s spring Camping World Truck Series race has been moved to the Nashville Superspeedway on April 2 and its late-fall Nationwide Series race has been moved to Gateway International Raceway on Oct. 23. Both Nashville and Gateway are owned by Dover Motorsports Inc.
