Melbourne, Australia — Orrcon Steel Racing's Jason Bargwanna has held off a determined Todd Kelly to bring his Ford Falcon home in fifth place in the 100km second race at the non-championship V8 Supercar support event at the Australian Grand Prix at Melbourne's Albert Park.

Bargwanna had Kelly stuck to his rear bumper for the entire 19-lap race, with the straight line speed of the Orrcon Falcon the key to the Ford driver holding off every challenge.

The enthralling battle was the feature of the race won by Jason Bright ahead of Steve Richards, with Greg Murphy third and Garth Tander fourth.

“The car gets better and better every time we take it out on the track this weekend,” said Bargwanna.

“Todd was giving me plenty, but I was able to simply keep it clean and he was never going to find a way past.

“It was great not to overdrive the car to hold him off. The tyres took a bit of a pounding, but that's OK to get a result like this.

“We've got one more 10-lap race tomorrow morning, and I'd like to get out of this weekend with a podium. That would be a great way to start our year and put us on track for the real championship stuff at Adelaide in two weeks”.

Fifth place finisher yesterday Paul Radisich (Team Betta Electrical) and V8 Supercar Champion Marcos Ambrose both failed to finish today's race after separate incidents.

Still running on cold tyres, Radisich went off the track on the second lap and in his efforts to rejoin the circuit made contact with another car and damaged the steering.

Ambrose was the victim of the Albert Park flora, with leaves blocking his radiator screen and causing the engine temperature to rise. He pitted to have the leaves removed, but the team played it safe and brought him back in to park the car.

Another Ford driver to have his race end early was John Bowe (OzEmail Racing) who lost a rear wheel soon after the start.

Steve Johnson (Shell Helix Racing) and Super Cheap Auto Racing's Steve Ellery kept out of any on-track dramas to score the final two positions in the top-10.
