The Ford Racing Innovation Drive made its first stop of the 2005 season at Kentucky Speedway to introduce the 2006 Ford Fusion to Blue Oval fans on Saturday. Fans were afforded the opportunity feel the Fusion, which was just unveiled two days prior, on the speedway track, Ford’s new midsize machine, along with other Ford vehicles.
The '06 NASCAR Ford Fusion will make its competition debut at the 2006 Daytona 500 in February, and Ford teams will use it in next year’s NASCAR Nextel Cup Chase for the Championship, as well as Busch Series competition.
The NASCAR Fusion replaces the Ford Taurus race car, which has captured four NASCAR championships (three Nextel Cup, one Busch), and 100 Nextel Cup victories since it made its competition debut in 1998.
This Fusion was designed by a singular team of Ford Racing personnel, including head aerodynamicist Bernie Marcus and NASCAR field manager Ben Leslie, handling the responsibility.
Consumers will appreciate the Fusion's good fuel economy, advanced safety, clean emissions and roomy interior space—all at an attractive value.
Fusion takes several design cues from the 427, especially its bold three-bar grille and multi-element projector-beam headlamps. The concept car also inspired Fusion's optional charcoal-black leather interior with contrasting oatmeal-colored seat stitching.
