Ford Mustangs dominated a sweltering start to the 2026 Supercars championship season in Sydney.
Mustang drivers took eight of the nine podium places available across the three races of the Sydney 500 in very hot conditions, with a 100-kilometre sprint under lights on Friday evening and a pair of 200-kilometre mini-enduro battles on Saturday and Sunday.
Broc Feeney took two wins from three starts in his first outing as a Mustang driver, following the return of his team, Triple Eight Race Engineering, to the blue oval.
“I’m stoked to have had such a solid start on my first weekend with Ford. The racing this weekend has been pretty awesome,” said Feeney.
There were Mustang sweeps of the top four places on Friday and Sunday, with Aaron Cameron and James Golding also delivering a surprise front-row lock-out for the first race of season ’26 with Blanchard Racing Team.
“A very promising opening weekend to the 2026 season for our teams,” said Mark Rushbrook, the global director of Ford Racing.
“Great to see Broc Feeney and Triple Eight open the year with two wins as our new Homologation Team, and excellent for the Blanchard family to have a strong performance with Aaron and James.
“It was fantastic to be trackside with our teams this weekend, I look forward to seeing them again in Melbourne."
The weekend was raced in front of a bumper crowd of 52,419, the best on record for a Supercars’ visit to Sydney Motorsport Park.
The 2026 Supercars Championship season continues with the Melbourne Supersprint at Albert Park, on the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix program, in Melbourne from March 5-8.

TEAM OWNER/TEAM PRINCIPAL QUOTES
TIM BLANCHARD, Blanchard Racing Team
- “We made a bit of a statement this weekend. We’ve taken a solid step forward with a very positive set of results.
- “We had both cars in the Top 10 in every qualifying session and it was great to see Aaron Cameron leading at one point with his elbows out.
- “Friday was the highlight, obviously, with the front-row lock-out and both cars on the podium, and it was also great to win in Super2 with Lochie Dalton.”
STEPHEN GROVE, Grove Racing
- “Honestly, anything but a win is now a failure for us. So we've got to continue to work hard and tick everything off and continue to grow as a team.
- “We’re got two really good young drivers in Matty Payne and Kai Allen, so to finish where we did is a positive outcome considering we didn’t have a great weekend.
- “It’s satisfying to have Matty equal top in the championship but it’s very early days. Now we’re excited to be heading to the Grand Prix as we have fast cars and we’ve done well there in the past.”
MARK FENNING, Dick Johnson Racing
- “A solid start to 2026 after an excellent effort by all the team over the off-season. The cars ran faultlessly this weekend and with a strong podium on Saturday we are looking forward to the season ahead.
- “Rylan Gray and Brodie Kostecki are working well together. It was great for Rylan to finish with a strong drive to 11th on Sunday afternoon.”
ROD NASH, Tickford Racing
- “It was a little bit tough until Sunday, when Cam Waters moved up 17 spots with a top drive to the podium. He was on a mission. Thomas Randle was also consistent across the three races, but it’s just so competitive now.
- “We’ve got to stay strong and keep punching on. It keeps getting tougher so we have to keep working hard and not get frustrated.”
MARK DUTTON, Triple Eight Race Engineering
“It’s an exciting feeling and it’s a proud feeling to do so well. It’s been a massive slog, the biggest challenge we’ve had with all the different things we had going on through the off-season.
“It's a compliment that people expect big things for the team. Everyone feels the pressure, but you rise to the challenge.
“It’s awesome to get the wins. The Friday, for me, showed me that the Mustang package is a good one with the changes we’ve made. On Saturday we had lightning quick cars and that was proper exciting. “It’s a quick turnaround with a lot of work before the Grand Prix, and it’s going to be a super-competitive season. There is so much learning to do with a new car. “The difference in our garage from Friday to Saturday at SMP was amazing. Awesome. But if we can do that, so can the opposition.”\
