The Ford Mustang Dark Horse has scored a major championship victory, with the GT4 Australia Series Silver-Am title.

Jason Gomersall and Aaron Seton, driving one of seven Mustang GT4s that have dominated the booming sports car championship, claimed the Silver-Am title at the Hampton Downs circuit in New Zealand.

In the elite Silver class, George Miedecke and Rylan Gray fell just a single point short of the championship after a dramatic win on Saturday forced a last-race shoot-out.

Seton’s victory in the Silver-Am class makes him a third-generation Australian Championship winner for Ford, following in the footsteps of his Bathurst-winning grandfather Barry, and two-time Australian Touring Car Championship winning father Glenn.

Mustang teams are already planning for the 2026 season of Monochrome GT4 Australia racing, with several teams planning to add extra cars to the grid, along with looking forward to a first visit to Darwin.

“It’s been a really good year. it’s very competitive racing and the final weekend produced more close racing and good results,” said Brendan McGinniskin, Ford Racing Australian Motorsport Program Manager.

“The Mustang got the Silver-Am cup and Silver Cup went all the way to the wire with a one-point difference at the end of the championship. So a really strong result as Rylan Grey and George Miedecke did everything they could in the second race.

“For Jason Gomersall/Aaron Seton and Dean Campbell/Cameron Crick teams to finish 1-2 in the Silver-Am contest shows the overall strength of the Ford Mustang GT4.

“It’s been a great year and we look forward to doing it again, bigger and better, in 2026. GT4 in Australia is getting stronger all the time and to complete in a growing category and continue to fly the flag for Ford Racing means a lot to us.”

The 2026 GT Australia championship begins at Phillip Island in Victoria on March 27-29.

TEAM QUOTES

Jason Gomersall
“It was cool to be able to wrap up the championship in a tough race on Saturday. The Mustang was strong in both races and we had good pace in our first visit to Hampton Downs. The team did a great job all weekend and I’ve very proud of everyone to get the win in the championship.”

George Miedecke
“No fairytale for us, unfortunately, but still a fitting ending with a battle that went right down to the final lap. It all came down to the last restart and Rylan Gray did everything he could. We’re pretty satisfied with the weekend and the championship. Next year we’re planning to add a second car to the team and there could be ten Mustangs in the championship.

Dean Campbell
“Things could have been better on Saturday with a non-finish but got the win on Sunday with Cameron Crick. We’re getting used to the car now and are already planning to be back next year. On raw speed we should probably have won the championship but we just made some mistakes. It’s about consistency, but we’ve learned that and it's ended up pretty good."

Jarrod Keyte
“It was great to come to NZ and learn a new track. We really enjoyed Hampton Downs and it was also nice to get extra practice on Thursday to learn more about the Mustang. We had a couple of dramas on Saturday, then got bounced with the Safety Car at the end on Sunday which erased a 15-second lead in the class. But fourth in class is not too tragic and it was a very enjoyable weekend."

Jake Camilleri
“Saturday was a chaotic race and I got run into twice, and went to the back twice, but still got third place in Silver. I got a good start on Sunday and was running third or fourth, but lacked a bit of pace. There have been highs and a couple of lows in the season, but the Sandown win was awesome. We’re just a little off where we wanted to be but we’ve got a good foundation to work from in 2026.”
