The Ford Mustangs were unbeatable as Supercars hogged the spotlight at the home of the Australian Formula One Grand Prix.

There was chaos and carnage across four short-and-sharp sprints which ignited the best action and the closest racing of the weekend at Albert Park.

Brodie Kostecki was the star as he claimed three wins to take the Supercars championship lead for the first time in season 2026 in his Mustang, as well as the Larry Perkins Trophy named in honour of Australia’s former F1 racer and six-time Bathurst champion.

Broc Feeney was the only other Mustang runner to bag a sprint win, but Matt Payne, Cam Waters, Will Brown and Thomas Randle also filled podium places across the weekend.

“This Ford Mustang was on fire. We’ve just got to keep on carrying this momentum,” said Kostecki.

The 2026 Supercars Championship season continues with the ITM Taupo Super 440, the first leg of a landmark double-header in New Zealand, from April 10-12.

TEAM OWNER/TEAM PRINCIPAL QUOTES

  MARK FENNING, Dick Johnson Racing

  • “A fantastic event. To win the Larry Perkins trophy is an excellent reward for the entire team.
  • “Our Mustangs showed exceptional pace over all four days and both Brodie Kostecki and Rylan Gray kept their cool as chaos unfolded around them in the races."
  • "We will get to the bottom of the clutch issue that cost Rylan in qualifying on Thursday and the team is really looking forward to the next events in New Zealand, as it was a happy hunting ground for us last year."

TIM BLANCHARD, Blanchard Racing Team

  • “It was a weekend of ‘What ifs?’ for us. We had good car speed all weekend and qualified up the front with both cars across all four races.
  • “It showed the pace in Sydney with James Golding and Aaron Cameron wasn’t just a one-off, although we haven’t been able to translate that into real success for a variety of reasons.
  • “Heading to New Zealand we’re got to keep the speed and see what we can do about converting from there.”

STEPHEN GROVE, Grove Racing

  • “We had great car speed with both Matt Payne and Kai Allen and that’s really positive moving forward. We just didn’t get the results the cars deserved.
  • “It’s just racing as this track at this level. Everyone has been involved in incidents across the four races but the big positive for us to take away is the speed in both cars.”

ROD NASH, Tickford Racing

  • “A very strong weekend for us and we continue to lead the teams’ championship. The game this year is going to be about getting consistent points, not just focussing on a single race weekend.
  • Between the two drivers, they have been consistent and each scored a P3 result. It’s strong racing out there and the name of the game is staying out of trouble.
  • We’ve come away with straight cars so that makes it easier with only a week before we head to New Zealand. And we got a lot of data out of the weekend that will help the guys back at the ranch.”

MARK DUTTON, Triple Eight Race Engineering

  • “The Fords are obviously very strong at Albert Park, so hats off the to lads that nailed the set-up. We were never totally happy with our speed this weekend and even at our speediest we felt we were lacking a little.
  • “But we own that. We need to work hard going forward to make sure we’re the fastest Mustangs.
  • “We’ve ended the weekend with a lot of damage to the #88 car and we’ll know about the repairability on Tuesday or Wednesday. We do have a spare car, but the first option is to repair Broc Feeney’s car.
  • “We’ve only got about five days to get the cars into containers and, even without repairs, the prep time is tight. But that’s business.”

ANDREW JONES, Objective Racing

  • “The snapshot of our weekend is that we are in a learning phase as a group at Objective Racing, so we are continuing that journey.
  • “I’m happy with our learnings across the weekend. It was highlighted by 11th place in the third race on Saturday evening for Jackson Walls.”
