The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Detroit Sports Car Classic, May 29 – 30, marks a homecoming for Ford Racing—competing just miles from Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn and the Flat Rock Assembly Plant where every Mustang is born. The Ford Mustang GT3 returns to the streets of Detroit to defend its turf as last year’s GTD Pro class winners.
FAST FACTS
- In 2025, Mike Rockenfeller and Sebastian Priaulx drove the No. 64 Ford Mustang GT3 to a GTD Pro class victory from pole position.
- The No. 65 Ford Mustang GT3 continued its surge as Frédéric Vervisch and Christopher Mies captured a class win at Laguna Seca earlier this month. The victory represents the fourth IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship win for the platform, contributing to 50 global podiums since the Mustang GT3 began racing in 2024.
- Ford Racing global director Mark Rushbrook will be made available in the media center, Saturday, May 30 from 11:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. ET.
DRIVER QUOTES
DENNIS OLSEN, No. 64 Ford Racing Mustang GT3 – “Racing for the first time at a street circuit is always a steep learning curve, but it’s exactly the type of challenge that racing drivers love. I’m really excited to race in Detroit, especially as it's the home ground for Ford, so we really want to do well. The team did great there last year so we’re hoping for another successful race weekend.”
BEN BARKER, No. 64 Ford Racing Mustang GT3 – “I’m super excited for Detroit, which is another new track for me and Dennis and the only street race of the season for the GTD Pro cars. We have some learning to do but the success of Rocky (Mike Rockenfeller) and Seb (Sebastian Priaulx) in the No. 64 Ford Mustang GT3 last year was really positive, so hopefully we can go back there and be in a position to challenge for the win."
FRÉDÉRIC VERVISCH, No. 65 Ford Racing Mustang GT3 – “Detroit is a big race for us as the Ford works team. We’re going to visit some of the employees ahead of the race, so we hope to have lots of home support for the Mustang GT3s throughout the weekend. It’s a challenging street track and we get close to the walls so every lap needs to be perfect there. We’re ready for it and we hope to repeat the win our sister car took last year.”
CHRISTOPHER MIES, No. 65 Ford Racing Mustang GT3 – “Street circuits are always special but racing on Ford’s home turf makes this one even more so. Last year we had a one-two in qualifying and the No. 64 Mustang GT3 won the race. Hopefully luck will be on our side this time around and we can continue our winning streak after our recent victory at Laguna Seca.”
