The 2026 Monochrome GT4 Australia Series has come to a close with Ford Mustang GT4 drivers featured prominently in every class.

Mustang runners started the final round of the year strong, with Ford Racing Driver Development Team member Cameron McLeod pairing with Jack Wallis to lead home an outright Ford one-two in the opening race of the weekend, ahead of Aaron Camron and Lochie Dalton.

During the final round of the Monochrome GT4 Australia Series at Melbourne's historic Sandown Raceway on the weekend, Mustang drivers featured in the fight for honours in the category's three classes – Silver, Silver Am and Am.

In the hotly contested Silver class, typically reserved for young or experienced drivers, the gun pair of Supercars stars Cameron and Dalton finished second outright. The pairing entered the final race of the season in fourth place, but after rivals encountered issues, their third-place finish secured a deserved second place in class.

It is the third straight year a Mustang GT4 has finished second in the Silver class following George Miedecke's back-to-back runner-up finishes in 2024 and 2025.

Miedecke and his teammate Blake Tracey were also hunting for second place in the championship at Sandown too, but a clash with a competitor on the opening lap damaged the car's front right Pirelli tyre. This forced them to fight from the rear of the field, eventually finishing eighth in the race and fourth in the final standings.

In the Silver Am class, it was a case of so close, yet so far for Dean Campbell.

After a season of mixed fortunes – including co-driver changes, his Mustang being crashed out in qualifying at the second round at The Bend and then missing the following round at Queensland Raceway – Campbell remained in the hunt for the crown at Sandown.

Alongside co-driver Cody Burcher at Sandown, Campbell's Mustang won its class in Sunday's final race, but it wasn't enough to outscore opponents Zac Soutar and Glenn Nirwan.

In the Am class, heartbreak struck season-long class leader Glenn Walker.

The relative newcomer to motorsport was the firm favourite heading into Sandown, but a series of Sunday misfortunes was enough to see him finish second in class – just three points shy of the title.

A first lap incident saw his Mustang GT4 spin on the grass, and in his fightback, he was involved in another clash, resulting in a 15-second penalty.

The GT4 Australia Series resumes in 2027, with the opening round held as part of the famous Bathurst 12 Hour event at Mount Panorama in February.

DRIVER QUOTES

Lochie Dalton

  • “We finished the year with a couple more trophies for the cabinet, so it was a nice way for Camo (Aaron Cameron) and I to end the 2026 season.
  • I'm actually really pleased to finish second in the championship. There were a couple of incidents during the year that cost us a genuine shot at the series win, but every time we jumped in the Mustang, the Multispares crew had it tuned and dialled.
  • “Second place is great, and I hope I get the chance to come back and do it again next year.”

George Miedecke

  • I think I hit everything except the Pace Car in the final race, but to be honest, it was a symptom of making a great start and then getting caught up in a fight for third.
  • “The incident meant I popped a tyre and I had to come back into the lane. The saving grace was that there was a red flag, so I didn't go down any laps, but we restarted from last.
  • “I had an absolute ball coming from the tail of the field, and the car got better and better as the race went on. For sure, it wasn't ideal, but I had a blast driving through the pack, and finishing fourth in the Silver class only makes me hungrier to come back next year and get to that top spot.”

Dean Campbell

  • “It was a bit of an up-and-down season, I guess you would say. We had a rough start to the year but we managed to come back and, you know, this Mustang is a rocket.
  • “Cody (Burcher) did an amazing job this weekend – it was a shame that we missed the title by a whisker. Finishing within two points of the title win was pretty impressive, so
I'll need to come back next year and try to win it.”

Glenn Walker

  • “I'm gutted to finish second. It definitely stings at the moment, but reflecting on the season we've had, it's been nothing short of stellar.
  • “I'm only in my second year of racing, so it's all come very quickly. But it still hurts not to bring the championship home, especially after being 14 points up heading into the final race and then copping a 15-second penalty. If I hadn't had that, we would have come out in front.
  • “We'll regroup for next year and have another go in our Mustang. The support we get from Ford Racing is incredible, and having three Mustangs in the Gomersall Motorsport stable means that we can try different setups and see what works.
  • “But ultimately, the Mustang is just a fun car to drive. I can't wait to get out there again next year.”
