Ford Racing is set to bring its premier factory GT3 program to Canadian soil for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, July 10 - 12. Four Ford Mustang GT3 race cars—two in the GTD Pro class and a pair in the Pro-Am GTD class—will tackle the iconic 2.459-mile circuit formerly known as Mosport, pursuing its fourth consecutive podium in front of one of the most passionate sports car racing crowds of the year.
FAST FACTS
- The No. 64 Ford Racing Mustang GT3 of Dennis Olsen and Ben Barker secured its first GTD Pro class podium of the season at Watkins Glen International, which extends Ford Racing’s string of three consecutive team podiums since May.
- The Mustang GT4 was successful in last year’s Michelin Pilot Challenge, as McCumbee McAleer Racing earned pole position and Stephen Cameron Racing drove to a third-place GS class finish.
- Ryan Briscoe and Richard Westbrook drove the No. 67 Ford Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GT to a class victory, helping Ford to a 2018 IMSA GTLM Manufacturers' Championship.
DRIVER QUTOES
DENNIS OLSEN, No. 64 Ford Racing Mustang GT3 – “I’m very excited to go to Mosport as it has been a while since I’ve been there. We’re keen to keep the momentum going now that we have had a good result in the No. 64 Mustang GT3. Hopefully the monkey is now off our backs and we can keep delivering. It’s Multimatic’s home track so let’s see if we can get everyone a trophy.”
BEN BARKER, No. 64 Ford Racing Mustang GT3 – “I haven’t raced at Mosport for over a decade so I’m super excited to be going there with the Mustang GT3. I remember it being a fun track and I hope we can get a good result for Multimatic at home. We’re at the halfway point of the season now so the plan is to take the momentum from Watkins Glen and keep it going for the rest of the year.”
FRÉDÉRIC VERVISCH, No. 65 Ford Racing Mustang GT3 – “This is one of the fastest and most challenging tracks on the IMSA calendar and I’m excited to see how the evolution of the Mustang GT3 will help us there. We’re looking for redemption after the last lap take down at Watkins Glen and the best way to get that is to have a good race and score a lot of points.”
CHRISTOPHER MIES, No. 65 Ford Racing Mustang GT3 – “Mosport is one of the coolest tracks on the calendar. It’s fast and flowing and it’s our only race in Canada so I’m really looking forward to it. We were taken out by a competitor at Watkins Glen but we are still in the championship fight. We’re sitting fourth and it’s all very close so I hope we can have a good result this weekend and score more championship points. Thanks to the boys and girls who are repairing the car, hopefully we will have a rocket ship for the race.”
FELIPE FRAGA, No. 16 Myers Riley Motorsports Mustang GT3 – “I’m really excited to race the Mustang in Canada. Canadian Tire Motorsport Park is such a fast and enjoyable track, and it’s always a great challenge for us as drivers. The team has been working hard, and we’ll keep pushing to bring home a strong result this weekend.”
COREY LEWIS, No. 66 Gradient Racing Mustang GT3 – “I'm looking forward to heading north of the border to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park for another sprint race with Gradient Racing and Jake Walker. After a strong weekend at Watkins Glen, I'm excited to carry that momentum forward and fight for the results the team and I know we're capable of. I think our Ford Mustang GT3 will really be able to flex its muscles on CTMP's long straights. I can't wait to get back on track.”
