From the turbo-charged Sierra Cosworths of the 1980s to today, my father and I have enjoyed every lap we've driven and race we’ve won behind the wheel of cars wearing the Blue Oval. We are presented with a unique opportunity to further integrate our family name within Ford’s 125 years of racing by co-collaborating in a factory Ford Mustang® GT3 program to compete in September’s Intercontinental GT Challenge Suzuka 1000km with Melbourne Performance Centre (MPC).
My father, Andrew, built Miedecke Motor Group from the ground-up nearly 50 years ago and for over a half-century, our family name has been synonymous with the Ford brand. Our legacy started on track with cars like his 1970s March Formula Atlantic, powered by the iconic Ford BDA (Belt Drive A-Series) engine, which we recently pulled down from our dealership display for a restoration—and let me tell you, it's just as fast as it was back in the day.
Broadening our horizons to Japan is an incredible opportunity to represent Ford on a more global stage—an honor to compete against GT racing's most elite competition, represented by top manufacturers and drivers. Competing under the Miedecke Motorsport by Team MPC banner, an All-Australian force will bring America’s Race Team to the 50th running of the Japanese endurance racing classic.
Our relationship with Ford continues to evolve, founded on extreme trust and loyalty to one another. When we were approached by Ford for this program, we partnered with a team that we know can convert. We operate Miedecke Motorsport out of the MPC workshop, and we can count on them to have that level of professionalism that an opportunity like this deserves. We’re well-placed and have the skills and people to make it happen.
Ford has put their best foot forward with its engineering support and the driver line-up. Christopher Mies, Frédéric Vervisch and Dennis Olsen are each at the top of their game—Rolex 24 At Daytona class champions, and they firmly put themselves in the best position to have an incredibly successful Bathurst 12 Hour. Both Chris and Freddy have racing experience with MPC, so they know what they can bring to the table. It’s a great advantage when all the moving parts can and have proven to function in a synchronized manner. A well-oiled machine, prepared to endure the stress and adversity of this prestigious endurance race.
To feel this devoted to a project and the Ford Racing brand is easy. I remember when we had our first Ford Mustang GT4 win at Phillip Island back in 2024. It was the first win globally for the new S650 platform in FIA GT racing. Shortly after, Jim Farley called my father personally to thank him for choosing Ford and for the effort in making the Mustang GT4 competitive.
What other CEO in the world would do that? While that’s not why we go racing, it was a massive moment for us. It showed that Ford looks after its own and is loyal to the people who are loyal to it. We’ve been so proud to fly the flag, and we will continue to do so in Suzuka, and into a very bright future.
